WG HELPING HANDS IN OUR COMMUNITY LAST WEEKEND! Saturday, the WG Varsity Track & Field team (Maddie Tuttle, Noah Wright, Isaac Hendrickson, Sam Caslin, Zade Gomez-Fitzsimmons, 2024 Graduate Johnny VanScoyk) along with Coach Kelly Sterner, and Rod Weeden with a crew of fellow Watkins-Montour Lions members picked up along both sides of Route 14 from Finger Lakes Auto Shop to Queen Catherine Falls, clearing debris and garbage. While the WGHS National Honor Society (NHS) worked hard cleaning the streets in the village of Watkins Glen. Congratulations to another WETM Athlete of the Week, Sophomore infielder Lauren Signor, voted as this week’s top athlete by fans on mytwintiers.com/sports. Signor had four hits and drove in five RBI in the Storm’s big win over Dryden. Lauren and the Storm have put together a strong year thus far in Section IV with a (11-2) record and just had a 7th inning win over Edison 6-5 on Friday. Congratulations to the WG Lake Hawks Drone Soccer team for competing in the 2025 Drone Soccer Nationals in Rome NY this past weekend! The team earned a wild card spot and competed among 24 top teams at the US Drone Soccer Nationals in Rome, NY Friday and Saturday. They faced fierce opponents including Reagan MS (Illinois) and North Carolina State Champs of Ashboro High School - our team battled hard and secured a winning set! Students also toured the Air Force Labs, explored AI & drone technology and took part in mini challenges. A Huge Dub-G Shout and Congratulations to WGHS Junior, Wendy Coleman! Article from the Historical Society of the New York Courts: Yesterday, Chief Judge Rowan D. Wilson announced the winners of the 2025 Law Day Art Contest, co-sponsored by the Society and the Office for Justice Initiatives. One hundred students entered the competition from every corner of the state, making it very difficult to select three winners. We congratulate Elise Kwon (9th JD), Wendy Coleman (6th JD), and Zoe Allen (3rd JD) for their remarkable art that portrayed what this year’s ABA Law Day theme The Constitution’s Promise: Out of Many, One means to them. A message from WGHS Art Teacher, Dawn Coleman : I am thrilled to announce that Watkins Glen’s Wendy Coleman was selected as the first-place winner for the Law Day art contest in our Sixth Judicial District (comprised of 10 counties in the Southern Tier). Her first-place winner is automatically entered in the state-wide competition. Best of luck to our Drone Soccer Team this weekend as they head off to National Championships Tournament in Rome, NY!! Our team is one of the youngest teams playing in the National Championships! This is quite an amazing feat being our first year as a New Club! The team is mostly 6th grade students, with one eighth grader and one junior, these kids have had an outstanding ranking all through their winter season. Here is a message from the Drone Soccer Coach ~Mrs. Trish Ervay The Watkins Glen Drone Soccer team is flying high! This weekend (May 2–3), they’ll compete in the U.S. Drone Soccer 2025 National Championship at the SkyDome, Griffiss International Airport in Rome, NY — a prestigious event featuring the top 24 teams from across the nation. In just their first year, our team launched in September, battled through double-elimination tournaments from October through February, earned entry into US Drone Soccer Division II Championship in March which led to a wild card entry to Nationals — now they're headed to the big stage! The stakes are sky-high: the winning team will be crowned Team USA and go on to represent the country at the FAI World Drone Soccer Championship in Shanghai, China this November.
