PE & ACE Health Teacher, Courtney Foss and her Wellness Club partnered up with the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center promoting the Tobacco-Free Initiative. The Club is directing their efforts towards reducing tobacco consumption. Their partnership has brought together a leading cancer research institution and the local school to make a lasting impact on both public health and the environment. The Wellness Club, yesterday for Earth Day, incorporated a public health project of cleaning up discarded cigarette butts that will get analyzed by the center to gain insight into the prevalence of tobacco use and to help in support ongoing cancer prevention research. The students walked the Catherine Valley Trail and WG school campus collecting discarded trash along their cleanup path. We have #WGProud students and teachers!

Congratulations to Notre Dame Junior, Finn Schweizer, teammate of the WGND Varsity Lacrosse team. Finn was selected for this week's Twin Tiers "Athlete of the Week" for making a play that produced his 200th Career goal. Way To Go!!! WG Freshman, Paige Ells, Varsity Storm softball was also in last week's list of nominees for the Twin Tiers "Athlete of the Week." Instead, Paige was selected for ESPN Ithaca's "Athlete of the Week" Our spring sports athletes continue to make us #WGProud

Today is SCHOOL BUS DRIVER APPRECIATION DAY! Today, we pause to recognize and celebrate a group of people who are absolutely essential to the heart of Watkins Glen Central School District — our School Bus Drivers. Long before the first bell rings and long after the last student heads home, our drivers are out on the roads, ensuring that every child gets to and from school safely. They brave rain, snow, fog, and traffic with calm, steady hands and compassionate hearts. We truly could not do what we do without them. Our School Bus Drivers do so much more than drive. They are the first smiling faces our students see each morning and the last warm presence they see each afternoon. They are careful observers who notice when a child is upset or needs support. They keep our students safe with every turn of the wheel and every stop of the bus. They learn every name, every route, and every need. They represent patience, responsibility, and care. They are critical to field trips, sports events, and every school memory that happens beyond the classroom. They are part of our team, part of our community, and part of our students’ lives. To our drivers — thank you. Your hard work, dedication, and kindness do not go unnoticed. You are appreciated by all of us in the Watkins Glen Central School District. PSA- Spring Sports Picture Day is Friday April 25th Varsity Track Varsity Baseball Modified Tennis Modified Baseball

WG Senior, Aidan Maphis, team member of the WGOM Storm Clay Target Team for the spring sports season is on his way to earning his Eagle Scout Rank for the Boy Scout Troop 50. Aidan facilitated the movement for his Eagle Scout Project to refurbish the current Trap Field at the Hunting and Fishing Club in Millport NY. Adian led the vision of replacing the current trap field with FLX Concrete Construction, Custom Mix Concrete, Morgan's Trucking and Watkins Lumber companies that help with materials & supplies to replace the old field, groundwork and concrete replacement, making this a safer and better facility for the Schuyler Storm Trap Team for years to come. Over 470 volunteer hours were exhausted over a seven-week period, with the help from 33 volunteers who helped Aidan fulfill his vision. Congratulations Aidan on your accomplishments!
