WGHS ACE FYEX students enjoyed a beautiful day on the campus of Elmira College for Business Career Day, made possible by the Career Development Council!

Students had the opportunity to hear from professionals representing a wide variety of career fields, including sports management, digital marketing, accounting, banking, fashion, civil service, entrepreneurship, event planning, finance, health career management, international business, real estate risk management, and even a president/CEO!
It was a great opportunity to explore career possibilities, learn from industry professionals, and think about the many paths available for their future. What a beautiful day to be on campus!

ACE FYEX students welcomed Bret from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) to learn how to recognize and avoid scams. Students put their skills to the test by identifying real vs. fake scenarios involving online shopping, phishing, college admissions, financial aid and scholarships, employment opportunities, AI, and social media. Thank you to the Career Development Council for arranging this informative and engaging presentation that provided valuable real-world lessons for our students!

Yesterday marked the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

It was also Vintage Festival weekend in the Village of Watkins Glen. If you know the festival, you know just how busy our beautiful community becomes. Decatur Street and the surrounding side streets fill with vehicles, and our local law enforcement and first responders work tirelessly before, during, and after the festival to keep our community safe and traffic moving.

Sometimes, a simple act of kindness can make a big difference.

This photo captured a few of our Schuyler Storm football players helping the Village of Watkins Glen Police Department move a disabled vehicle out of the roadway.

It is a small gesture, but it is also a reminder of something much bigger: good exists in this world. Hope and unity can outwork division and doubt. The spirit of people coming together to help one another, so evident in the days following 9/11, continues through the generations.

WGCSD is grateful to our local law enforcement and first responders for all they do for our community. We are equally grateful for students who remind us that leadership, service, and kindness are not just words. They are actions.

And moments like this also remind us of the parents, caregivers. coaches, teachers, administrators, support staff, bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria staff, and so many others who help our young people develop these values every day. Thank you for helping raise and guide young people who understand that looking out for others matters.

As we wrap up our first week of classes, it is pretty special to be reminded of what we are all about. Taking care of one another. Serving our community. Showing up when we are needed. These are the moments that make us proud of our students and our schools.

We have great kids in our schools. We were lucky enough to capture a little bit of that goodness in action.

Well done, gentlemen, and good luck tonight!

UNITED, WE SOAR!

Twenty-five years later, the events of September 11 remain a powerful reminder of both profound loss and extraordinary courage.

Today, the Watkins Glen Central School District remembers those who lost their lives, honors the first responders who answered the call, and recognizes the many survivors, rescue and recovery workers, and families who continue to be impacted by 9/11-related illnesses and lasting effects.

As we reflect on this day, we honor the resilience, service, and unity that emerged from tragedy and continue to inspire our nation. May we carry forward those lessons and help future generations understand the importance of compassion, sacrifice, and coming together in times of challenge.
