Hello Watkins Glen School Community!

As we work toward graduation on Saturday, I would like to bring you up to date on a few important topics as we wrap up 22-23 and prepare for 23-24!

Administrative Update:

With the future in mind, I would like to provide you with a brief update on some exciting administrative changes that will be taking place in the 23-24 school year.

Our current Elementary School Principal, Mr. Leroux, will be shifting to the role of Director of Special Programs on July 1, 2023. He will be overseeing our Special Education Program and our program for English Language Learners.

After serving as our Assistant Principal in the Elementary school, Mrs. Reger will be shifting into the role of Elementary School Principal on July 1, 2023.

Also on July 1, 2023, Mrs. Somerville will be shifting into the role of Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.

We have hired a new Assistant Principal in the High School, and we are in the process of hiring a new Assistant Principal in the Elementary School. An introduction of our new team members will come out later this summer.

Land Survey:

Thanks to the support of our school community, the Watkins Glen Central School District officially owns the lot on the corner of 15th and Decatur Streets. As promised, we are seeking community feedback regarding what you would like to see on this lot. Please take a moment to provide the District with a suggestion or two by filling out this form.

Graduation Location Change:

Due to the wet weather forecasted, we have decided to move graduation indoors. Luckily, we have a wonderful auditorium as WGHS that can host graduation without a need for ticketing! All are welcome to come to WGHS to support the graduating Class of 2023! Please reach out to the HS main office if you have questions.

Team Name & Mascot Update:

On June 21st, the Board of Education official retired the team name “Senecas” and adopted the team name “Lake Hawks” for all WGCSD athletic teams.

A small committee of faculty and administration will begin the mascot design process this summer. In the fall we will seek student input, and we are hoping to have our new mascot designed by fall or early winter.

23-24 Covid Update:

As of right now there are no changes to our COVID re-opening plan for the fall of 2023. If there are any changes on this topic, I will be sure to communicate with our school community. If you have any COVID related questions or concerns, you can reach out to me directly at 607-535-3220.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

I wish you a happy and healthy summer!

 With respect & gratitude,

Kai D’Alleva
