🎄💚 The Grinch Strikes at WGES! 💚🎄
The Grinch made an unexpected visit to Watkins Glen Elementary today… and let’s just say he brought plenty of holiday mischief with him! He snuck through classrooms, “borrowed” a few teachers’ belongings, and hid them away in one of our offices.
To top it off, he even tried to make off with a police car — but our amazing SRO, Officer Schutt, was on the scene in seconds and quickly apprehended our green troublemaker! 🚔💚
All stolen items were safely returned, smiles were restored, and WGES is once again calm, joyful, and ready for the holiday season.
Thanks to Officer Schutt for saving the day and to our staff and students for embracing the fun! 🎉💚

Congratulations to Storm WG 8th-grade swimmer, Makenzie Fish, for earning the last fall sports season spot for ESPN Ithaca Athlete of the Week!
Makenzie earned her ticket to the NYSPHSAA State Swimming Championships last weekend with her state-qualifying times in the 100 backstroke during the IAC Class C Championships held in October, and then with her 1st-place finish at the Section IV Class C Championship Finals in the 200 IM.
Makenzie had great swims at the State Championship, placing 35th in the 200 IM prelims—just shy of the top 30 to compete in the Saturday Finals. However, she did claim a spot in the Finals with her 100 backstroke and placed 22nd amongst all classes, including the Federation schools, with a new PR and Storm backstroke record!
Listen to Makenzie’s podcast with Nick Karski from ESPN Ithaca.

Day 5 – The Trip Home
In roughly two hours, the Class of 2026 will arrive at the Field House, filled with a week of gained knowledge about our government, monuments to remember, and new friends they have made throughout the week with their classmates—or discovered that a teacher was a better friend than they thought, someone who supported them all through high school. These are the moments that WGCSD wants to create for our students.
Even though it was a travel day, their trip did not end with just riding the bus home to Watkins Glen; it was a continuous adventure from their 7 a.m. morning wake-up call and room check.
By 9 a.m., they were visiting the People’s Museum, then off to the Washington National Zoo! After lunch, they hopped back on the bus and visited the National Cathedral. Hungry to get home, they made another stop at Williamsport Wegmans to fill up those tummies. Soon, they will arrive happy, safe, and excited to see their families and share this week’s experiences with everyone!
See you soon, families!
To the Class of 2026, this has been one #WGProud week for all!

Day 4's itinerary was anything but dull for the seniors on Thursday.
Their journey began with a tour and viewing of the Vietnam Memorial Wall, where the students were each assigned a name to find among the listed soldiers—a task that felt like searching for a needle in a haystack.
Next, they headed to the American History Museum, the Natural Science Museum, and the National Gallery of Art, followed by lunch at the Gallery of Art Café.
They wrapped up their touring with a visit to Mount Vernon—President George Washington's estate home. Dinner was next on the list at the Hard Rock Café to fuel up before heading to Ford's Theatre for the evening performance of A Christmas Carol.
Another educational, monumental, and memorable experience was had by all. These are the moments we hope will stay with the seniors forever.

Yesterday marked the halfway point of the senior trip in Washington, D.C. The itinerary for the day started very early with the annual Senior Class Photo on Grant’s Steps, a visit to the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum, a walk-through of the Botanical Gardens, and then a full tour of the Capitol Building. Later that evening, they attended the Capitals vs. Edmonton Oilers hockey game at Capital One Arena, where a group of seniors were highlighted on the arena’s Jumbotron and warmly welcomed by the crowd. Memories are being made as they experience such meaningful history and culture together.
Let's keep making those moments!
