WG

Good morning WG School Community:

I hope this message finds you well! Despite the challenges from early last week, we finished the week strong!

Pandemic Related Information:

The "mask mandate" is still being heard by the Appellate Court. In a statement on Friday, Commissioner Rosa and the New York State Education Department (NYSED) directed all schools to keep the mandate in place until the matter is settled.

In other pandemic related news, the District has a significant supply of at home test kits available for those that need them. Please contact your child’s Main Office if you would like to arrange for pick up.

General Information Related to Teaching, Learning, and School:

As we officially embark on the second half of the academic year, I want to thank you for your support as we work toward providing all students with a great experience in our schools. Regardless of the challenges, I am very proud of all we have done this year. Our staff has worked extremely hard to keep our students in school, as we have kept a laser-like focus on in-person learning. With all areas of our school family experiencing labor shortages, our employees have stepped up to keep our doors open. As a result, our students are growing, and their learning is accelerating! Our students make us “WG PROUD” every single day!

I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that tomorrow (1.31.2022) is a staff development conference day. Though students will not be in school, their teachers will be learning together and collaborating! Tomorrow we welcome Dr. Tom Guskey back to the District to provide us with continued professional learning around assessment, evaluation, and grading. Dr. Guskey is a national speaker and leading researcher on the topics of assessment and grading for learning. Dr. Guskey is a Professor Emeritus in the College of Education at the University of Kentucky where he served as Department Chair, Head of the Educational Psychology Area Committee, and President of the Faculty Council. We began our work with Dr. Guskey prior to the pandemic, and we are excited to continue and refocus our learning tomorrow.

As always, I will be sure to communicate any changes to the information above.

I wish you a happy and healthy second semester!

I hope you have a great Sunday!

Go Senecas!

Respectfully,

Kai D’Alleva
