Good afternoon, Watkins Glen School Community,

Though the Class of 2025 has not yet crossed the stage to celebrate their graduation, planning and preparation for next school year is already well underway.

As we look ahead to the 2025–2026 school year, I want to make you aware of two important statewide changes that will go into effect on September 1, 2025. Our district is currently developing policies for both laws, and those policies will be finalized and in place by the start of the school year.

Classroom Temperature Limits – Effective September 2025

New legislation will require schools to monitor classroom temperatures and ensure that learning spaces do not exceed 88°F. We are actively reviewing our facilities and procedures to ensure compliance. Next year, on days of extreme heat, it may be necessary to implement half-day schedules to accommodate this regulatory change. If such changes are required, we will communicate clearly and as far in advance as possible.

Ban on Internet-Connected Devices During the School Day – Effective September 2025

Also beginning in September, the State will prohibit the use of internet-enabled personal devices during the instructional day. This includes smartphones, smartwatches, and tablets. School-issued technology used for instructional purposes will still be permitted. However, personal internet-connected devices will need to remain off and away during school hours.

As we work to develop a district policy aligned with this law, we invite your input. Please take a moment to complete a brief survey to share your thoughts and help inform our planning:
